Our first unit is European Exploration and Colonization.
Every week on Thursday 5th graders have capital and state quiz!!!
EACH 5TH GRADER IS RESPONSIBLE FOR A CAPITAL AND STATES FOLDER. It will be graded once or twice during the six week.
The capital and state map folder must be kept up to date. Each week the 5th Graders receive a new state or two or three. Each one must be:
1. Colored (not with marker)
2. Labeled with state name
3. Labeled with capital & a star by where the capital is
4. Labeled with postal abbreviation
Every time we have a new region and/or new section there is a map of that also. Each of those must be:

Fifth grade assignment -- in the works -- not yet assigned!
. Create an illustrated booklet of the BILL OF RIGHTS.
Bill of Rights Booklet Assignment:
Label and illustrate the first ten amendments. -booklet will have 15 pages including a title page
(other pages: 5 for the first amendment; 1 for each of the other 9)
1. The First Amendment will have five pages – one for each part of that amendment. (This section is due Wednesday, Sept)
2. The other nine will have one page per amendment. That makes 14 pages for the 10 amendments.
3. Five (any five) more amendments are due Tuesday, Oct. 9.
4. Each illustration will be mounted on construction paper and glued to the pages that I am furnishing.
5. On each page the amendment is already printed, but 5th Graders will need to add the meaning of each amendment. It should also be glued onto a piece of construction paper, just larger than the white paper.
6. Five illustrations must be pictures cut from magazines.
7. Four may be computer printouts (Be sure to document the source.).
8. Five will have to be hand-drawn by the student. (nicely done and colored.
9. Students will type a cover page.
10. Students will decorate the front of the booklet with art that
goes with the theme/title – Bill of Rights Booklet.
